Lillian Simmons
Lillian Simmons (née Stauss) offers a photographic passage back to 1926 Mexico, capturing its cultural vibrancy and historical edifices with a vision informed by her art studies in college, including tutelage from Diego Rivera while she visited Mexico City. Her images, a selection from a rediscovered trove of 137, not only depict the rural and urban life but also serve as a historical account, documenting Mexico City's Religious Revolution.
The exhibition of her work at the Instituto de Mexico in San Antonio in 2003 celebrated her unique perspective, occurring after her passing in 2000, intertwining her personal legacy with her husband Colonel's architectural contributions to Mexico and Texas. The rediscovery of Lillian's lens opened a window to a bygone era, with her enduring works capturing the soul of the times.
