By William Lacy

Before his passing, Bill Lacy fulfilled a lifelong dream by being inducted into the Society of Illustrators of New York. Starting in 1988, he served as an accredited artist in the U.S. Air Force Art Program, dedicating his talent to painting contemporary and historical Air Force subjects. Under the directive of the Air Force, he took on the role of founding the Southwest Society of Air Force Artists in 2000, contributing to one of the five regional societies in the United States. Bill's artwork found a permanent home in the Air Force Art Collection in Washington D.C., and his pieces adorned prominent locations such as the Pentagon, the Smithsonian Air and Space, and various museums in Washington, as well as Major Command Headquarters. His dedication to his craft took him around the globe as he researched and painted subjects for the Air Force. From the chilly landscapes of Iceland to the vibrant jungles of Colombia and Peru, Bill Lacy's artistic pursuits knew no bounds. Beyond his contributions to Air Force art, he found joy in capturing the essence of Texas landscapes on canvas. Hailing from Austin, Texas, Bill was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. His service extended beyond the realm of art, as he had the distinction of serving in both the Navy and the Air Force, showcasing his talent not only as an artist but also as an accomplished pilot. Bill Lacy held a profound belief in the constitutional duty of the federal government to protect its citizens from both foreign and domestic threats. For him, this resonated as the primary mission of the military in this cherished nation. His legacy lives on through his art, which continues to inspire and reflect his unwavering commitment to duty and country.
